Paths & Roots is a collection of works for piano and classical guitar.

The motifs of purple and green are of ends and beginnings, the cerebral and the physical, the intuitive and the natural. These are experiments in recorded sound, captures of the physicality of the space in which they are performed, transportations to closeness and intensity. The directions, positions, and unique accidents of sound, body, and instrument are as much part of the work as the imagined non-corporeality of the pitches and rhythms, for sound as it can be known always includes corporeality and physical vectors.

The works relate to one another in their common invitation to this kind of listening, but are not hierarchical in their progression. As such, they can be heard together or in any order or groups imagined.

For the two year anniversary of this album's initial release, three additional tracks have been added to the original set of five. "Shades" was composed separately but from similar inspiration. "Slate" and "Evening Leaves" are both adapted from alternative early versions of "Amethyst" and "Violet" respectively.
